Course Description:

This course is dedicated to provide an overview to technical writing, technical document types and formats, ways of writing the documents and other information related to producing the qualified technical documentation. To convey technical knowledge to diverse audiences in unique settings necessitates that writers become accomplished technical communicators. Technical writing is the focus of this course. This course will prepare students to communicate knowledge and information through various means to audiences of experts, professionals, technicians, and lay persons. The course will also provide detailed instructions on tools used for technical writing.


NOTE: This course is not intended to serve as a course for learning English

Course Objectives:

  • To understand the genre and manipulate the structure of selected technical documents;
  • To convey clearly, cogently and correctly the technical aspects of a practice to non-specialist audiences;
  • To recognize and use the rhetorical and stylistic elements necessary for the successful practice of scientific and technical communication;
  • To appreciate your obligations as prospective practitioners toward the laypersons affected by your work.


Target audience:

  • Technical engineers or students that want to focus on writing technical documentation, system specifications, user manuals, etc.
  • Linguists with good knowledge of one or many foreign languages that would like to enhance their knowledge with technical writing skills
  • IT companies, that would like to qualify their staff members as technical writers


Course Prerequisites:

  • The course will be taught in English, combined with Armenian
  • Pre-intermediate English is required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word


Start date: February 1

Schedule: Tuesdays and Fridays, 18:30 – 20:30

Course Duration: 20 hours over 5 weeks

Fee: AMD20,000

Registration deadline: January 30, 2013

Certification: At the end of the course, students will take an exam to gauge the level of knowledge and skills acquired in this course and according to the results will be awarded a certificate.
