nerqinkarmiraghbyurfollowupHayk Yesayan, the Director General at Ucom, recently visited the students of “Armath” engineering laboratory, operating in the rural school of Nerkin Karmiraghbyur community in Tavush province. With the support of Ucom, the laboratory was opened 2 years ago in this school, which is immediately under the fire of the enemy. If two years ago the lessons of young engineers and programmers were being held in a psychologically strained environment, now the situation is different, as the school is protected with a 3m high protective wall, which allows children to feel safer and concentrate on the learning process. Nevertheless, the feeling of everyday danger hinders these children from understanding clearly how to apply their school knowledge in future.

“The village has a population of 400, out of which 79 are schoolchildren, who attend this rural school. The protective wall around the school is the guarantee of the learning process. It’s clear that under such conditions a school should be more than a school. It should connect these children with the outside world and expand their worldview. Everything should be done to help these children discover the world without leaving their village, we should bring the world with all its knowledge, difficulties and opportunities to these children. We can achieve this goal by leveraging on our staff and the Internet,” said Hayk Yesayan, the Director General at Ucom.

bif2017pressconfThe 5th Annual Business Innovation Forum will be held under the slogan "Step Forward into The New Reality”. BIF will take place on November 10-11 in Dilijan.  Karen Vardanyan, organizer of Business Innovation Forum, the Executive Director of Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) and Eva Naeher the Team Leader of the “Support to SME Development in Armenia" (SMEDA) Project announced about this today at press conference.

"The technology is being developed so fast that it needs to be constantly adjusted to life and business. The innovative approaches are successfully applied in the IT sector, and positive trends are definitely noticeable. However, the level of application of innovations in Armenia is low, that is why we create a platform for its development and effective use. We have a positive shift in the fields of IT and engineering, but the level of the demand of innovative solutions by other businesses is not that high. The innovation also assumes the need for investment which is essentially linked to the competition and business thinking. If the businessman's thinking is focused only on the market of Yerevan, and there is no a certain task to be represented to the global market, then the innovation approaches are not in the line with his interests", said Karen Vardanyan, Executive Director, UITE.

Having been opened 2 years ago with the support of Ucom, this laboratory and its student engineers and programmers have met the expectations of “Armath” project initiators in this short period of time.

For the 10th jubilee ArmRobotics competition, organized by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), the students of “Armath” laboratory from Artsvaberd have designed a robot, which, according to the rules of competition, were to find objects in the competition field, such as cubes, balls and convex polygons, pick them up and move to the place reserved for that robot. Experts assure that the competition, as compared with similar international competitions, is much more complicated. As a result of a 3-month hard work, 12 teams from Tavush, Lori, Gegharkunik and Shirak regions, as well as Yerevan, reached the finals.
